What do you call the squishy soft?

We used them at my high school to play softball when nobody had gloves. They were about the size of a softball, but you could squeeze them and still hit them pretty far with a bat. They look almost like the you use in a pool, but the thing I am talking about is a little more dense than that. Any help?
