Is my Mississippi mud turtles tank right?

I've had a mississippi mud turtle for about a year now, and i just got new stuff for his tank. I bought a little pool type of thing for him to swim in on the side and the rest of the tank is sand for him to dig in and a log for him in rest under. Now i looked it up and they said he only likes to swim for a little so i thought i should just get a bowl type thing of water on the side, because i dont know if he is aquatic. But he has been acting strange and i really want to know if its the right type of set up for him.
